According to its proponents, entering into an agreement of this kind is common between nations as it is well-known that no government can provide employment for all the citizens in a country. They say that there is hardly any country that has one hundred percent employment rate and therefore, this agreement is one of the ways in which the government is reducing unemployment in The Gambia. Whatever the case, the government of The Gambia has a huge task in making sure that there are more job opportunities for the young people of the country.

The Republic of Gambia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kingdom of Spain to recruit Gambians for work in Spain, with the Gambia government starting the distribution of application forms. The applicants must be Gambian nationals aged between 25 and 50, with a valid passport and experience in agriculture, particularly fruit picking and handling. The final selection will be determined through an interview process involving the Spanish Office of Labour, Migration and Social Security officials, the Spanish Embassy in The Gambia, and the Spanish employer.

Justice Ebrima Jaiteh of the Banjul High Court in The Gambia has upheld a theft conviction against Ousman Manneh, manager of the Taiwanese Taitek Company. Manneh was found guilty of failing to pay four employees from funds sent to his Standard Chartered Bank account by the employers in Taiwan between 2017 and 2019. The court ordered Manneh to pay a fine of D100,000 or face two years imprisonment, and to pay each of the complainants US$10,000.
